“Uno!” is one of the most exciting games for groups. Uno’s rules make it also one of the easiest card games to play. We will let you judge yourself just how much fun can be had playing after we show you how to play Uno. The best ways to play the game will be shown in the next paragraphs.
How to play Uno
The original Uno Game is designed for at least two, but no more than ten players. After shuffling the deck well every player will get dealt only seven cards. Be sure to deal them face down. The remaining cards are set in the middle in what is called the Draw Pile. Beside the Draw Pile there should be a space for the Discard Pile. Remember to put the top card in the discard pile.
To play the game the first player is traditionally placed to the left of the deal. One variation is to choose the youngest player to start. Game play in Uno goes in a clockwise direction. Uno rules state that the players have to match the number, symbol or action, or color to the card in the Discard Pile. An example of how this works is if there is a red number four in the Discard Pile the player can play a four card, a red card, or a wild card. The wild card is able to change the color needed for the next player.
In the event that the active player has no matching number or bluffs by not playing anything from their hand, they are required to draw from the Draw Pile. This increases the number of cards in their hand, but also gives them a chance to draw a more strategic card. If that card is within the rules to be played it can be so instantly. If the card is not playable the game moves to the next player. When it’s your turn you can always play a Wild Draw Four card or a Wild card. Also if the first card turned over when the game begins is an Action card it has to be applied. Unless that card is a Wild Draw Four or Wild card, then put it back in the deck and shuffle until this doesn’t happen. When the Draw Pile runs out of cards you should take the Discard Pile and reshuffle it then use the first card to continue.
Uno rules
Two options are available for new card drawing. The Official Uno Rules say if a drawn card is not playable it can be instantly discarded. A popular alternate rule for drawing cards is to keep drawing until you have a match up to ten times. Your choice should depend on how fast you want the game to go.
Winning happens only after someone discards all, but one card then yells “Uno!”. If someone comes down to one card and doesn’t say “Uno” the player who should’ve said “Uno” has to draw two more cards. Once a player has zero cards left the round is over. Whoever runs out of cards first gets all the points based on the added numbers of all the remaining cards in the other players hands. Traditionally the first person to five hundred wins, but you can pick this number before the game as alternate way of playing.
Keep in mind lower numbers as the round winds down are desirable. Since you now know how to play Uno, it is time to gather your friends and test your skills. And don’t forget to say “Uno!”.
The game can also be played online, a good Android version can be found here.
